Our Swing Bed Program provides short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation for patients who no longer need acute hospital care but need more time and support before returning home.

At Jenkins County Medical Center, we offer swing bed services to patients patients who need additional recovery time after a hospital stay can continue receiving skilled nursing care, rehabilitation and personalized support through JCMC’s Swing Bed Program. Patients stay in our renovated Swing Bed rooms while working to regain strength and prepare for a safe return home.

Activities if Daily Living

Our dedicated Activities of Daily Living space allows therapists to work closely with patients on practical skills needed at home. These may include walking safely, getting in and out of beds or chairs, dressing, and completing other everyday activities.

Who May Benefit

The Swing Bed Program may be appropriate for patients recovering from:

• Orthopedic procedures or surgery
• Stroke
• Cardiac conditions
• Respiratory conditions, including COPD and pneumonia
• Wounds
• Gastrointestinal conditions
• Chronic health conditions

Patients with other diagnoses may also qualify. Contact our Swing Bed team for an evaluation.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility is based on the patient’s medical needs and insurance coverage. Requirements may include:

• A qualifying three-day inpatient hospital stay within the previous 30 days for Traditional Medicare Part A
• A stable medical condition that no longer requires acute hospital care
• Physician authorization for daily skilled nursing care and/or rehabilitation
• A need for daily skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, or additional respiratory support
• Medicare Part A or another qualifying insurance plan
• The ability and willingness to participate in the prescribed plan of care and rehabilitation program
