Who May Benefit
Pulmonary Rehabilitation may help people with:
- COPD
- Emphysema
- Chronic bronchitis
- Asthma
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Chronic pulmonary embolism
- Chronic respiratory failure with hypoxia or hypercapnia
- Shortness of breath or wheezing
- Frequent lung infections, including pneumonia
- Abnormal pulmonary function test results
What the Program Includes
Each patient’s program is based on their individual needs and may include:
- Spirometry testing to evaluate lung function and the effectiveness of bronchodilator medication
- A six-minute walk test to assess exercise ability and the need for supplemental oxygen
- Exercise training
- Breathing training
- Nutritional counseling
- Disease-management education
What to Expect
The program lasts 12 weeks, with visits two to three times a week. Patients receive guidance and monitoring as they work to manage symptoms, build strength and endurance and become more confident in their daily activities.
